Physicality of Acting
Time: Wednesdays at 7:00-8:30pm
Instructor: Nelson Brown
Dates: January 20th and 27th
Price: $10 for Session 1, $20 for both sessions
Class Description: ( 8 Student Limit)
You know your lines and you're ready to hit the stage - do you have the body language tools you need to physically communicate to your audience? As an actor and film animator, I'd like to share with you how age-old animation principles can be used to strengthen your performances and then give you an opportunity to try them out.
Session 1: Presentation - I will go through the foundational principles of character animation and discuss how each can be applied to acting for the stage or screen. We will then look at and analyze some examples of live performances that employ these principles.
Session 2 (optional): Lab - Now is your chance to try it out! Anyone who is interested is welcome to perform a short piece, either live or on video. I will provide feedback and suggestions on how what we've learned can be applied to strengthen the physicality of your performance.
Nelson Brown is a Bay Area actor who has worked with The Mountain Play, the Curtain Theatre, and of course MMTC - where his favorite roles include Nathan Detroit (Guys and Dolls), Riff Raff (The Rocky Horror Show) and his SFBATCC nominated performance as the Adult Men (Spring Awakening).
In addition to acting, Nelson has worked for 15 years as an animator for companies such as Dreamworks, Sony, and Lucasfilm, where his film and TV credits include Madagascar 3, The Angry Birds Movie, Smurfs: the Lost Village, Megamind, and Star Wars Rebels.
