During your audition slot, you will sing your song and do a cold read from the sides provided at the audition. We recommend you read for the part you are most interested in (ensemble sides are available).
All actors are required to attend the dance audition on the day of their audition:
Tuesday February 28th: 8:30pm Dance Audition
Friday March 3rd: 7pm Dance Audition
- 32 bars (approximately 1 minute) of a song from a musical in the style of The Pajama Game
- Sheet music in your key (the accompanist will not transpose)
- Shoes/clothes you can dance in (there will be time to change between your read/sing slot and the dance audition)
- Audition Form, Conflict Calendar, Headshot, and Participation Agreement (all 3 forms will be posted by Saturday February 18th)
- Optional: Resume
Note: No karaoke, CD backing tracks, YouTube links, or a cappella accepted. If you are only interested in an ensemble role (no solo sung or spoken lines), you may opt to sing Happy Birthday or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star OR 32 bars/1 minute of a song of your choice.
What are the workshop fees?
NOTE: The 4 lead actors (characters: Sid, Babe, Hines, and Gladys) do not pay a workshop fee and receive a $50 stipend.
All other actors are required to pay a $150 workshop fee. Additional family members are $125/person. If you would like to apply for a scholarship to cover the workshop fee, please e-mail our Producer at email@example.com BEFORE auditions to obtain the scholarship application form.
When are rehearsals?
Rehearsals begin early May 2017 and continue through July 2017. Rehearsals are generally Monday-Thursday, with some weekends.
All weekday rehearsals are 7pm-9:30pm. All cast members will NOT be called for every practice.
The dates listed below are mandatory for the whole cast.
If you have a conflict with and these dates, please notify the Producer at firstname.lastname@example.org before auditions and note the conflict on your conflict calendar: July 1st through Strike on July 23rd
THE PAJAMA GAME CHARACTER LIST (Cast size 30+, all characters open)
Sid Sorokin (Male, Lead, young adult): Charming new superintendent at Sleep Tite. He is a productive worker. Adamant about retaining his job and improving his job performance. Falls in love with Babe. B2-Ab4, Baritone, Mover. $50 stipend.
Katherine “Babe” Williams (Female, Lead, young adult) - The head of the Union Grievance Committee, who against her own will at first, falls in love with Sid. Strong, feisty, a little stubborn, and full of pride for the union but also charming and sensitive. The unspoken leader of the workers and women who work at the factory. A3- F5, Mezzo Soprano, Belter, Strong mover. $50 stipend.
Gladys Hotchkiss (Female, Supporting, young adult): Mr. Hasler's hard-working, and generally good natured, secretary. Her penchant for nights out on the town, along with her sexy, sensual, and quick-witted demeanor, often lands her in hot water with men. Gladys is an exceptionally strong dancer. Ab3-Eb5, Alto. $50 stipend.
Vernon Hines (Male, Supporting, older adult): Time study man at Sleep Tite. He is the jealous type, but has a kind heart and a talent in knife-throwing. Surprisingly soft around the edges. Comedic timing required, B2-F4, Baritone, Strong mover. $50 stipend.
Myron “Old Man” Hasler (Male, Supporting, older adult): The president at Sleep Tite. Fiscally conservative, he is demanding, stubborn, and uptight. Spoken role, Non-dancer.
Prez (Male, Supporting, adult): President of the union at Sleep Tite. He is not the brightest person. A notorious flirt and womanizer who constantly regrets his marriage. Db3-F#4, Tenor, Strong mover
Mae (Female, Supporting, adult): Mae is an outspoken, boisterous, quirky, stand-out member of the Union Grievances Committee, and a worker at the Sleep Tite factory. Accepts Prez’s advances, much to his surprise. Alto, Strong mover
Mabel (Female, Featured, older adult): Sid's secretary, the mother hen of the secretary. Her earnestness can occasionally melt into crassness, but she is always very aware of the happenings at Sleep Tite. B3-F5, Alto, Strong mover
The Machine (Male, Featured, adult): The Dictaphone machine that sings Hey There back at Sid
Brenda (Female, Featured, adult): Member of the Union Grievances Committee and a worker at the Sleep TIte Factory. Mover
Pop (Male, Featured, elderly): Babe’s kind and agreeable father. He cares about his daughter very much. Kind, agreeable, nice, warm, charming old-timer. Spoken, Non-Dancer
Poopsie (Female, Featured, adult): One of the factory workers at Sleep Tite and a union activist. Poopsie organizes the annual company picnic. Flirtatious and floozy woman.
Charley (Male, Featured, adult): Handyman and worker at the factory
Joe (Male, Featured, adult): Worker at the Sleep Tite factory and Union President Prez’s right-hand man
