About the Set
For this production of Jagged Little Pill, the scenic design embraces a stark black-and-white world framed by suspended picture frames. When you walk into a family’s home and see photographs lining the walls, you’re often given a glimpse into how that family sees itself - what moments they choose to preserve, what stories they want to tell about who they are. Our set draws inspiration from that idea. The frames suggest the images and narratives families construct and project to the world, while the monochrome palette reflects the human tendency to view life in stark terms: right or wrong, strong or broken, acceptable or unacceptable. In a story where a white family has adopted a Black daughter, the visual language of black and white also quietly evokes themes of race, belonging, and identity. The frames remain constant throughout the show, a reminder that while the world often tries to define people through fixed images and simple stories, the lives unfolding within those frames are far more complex.
